Why You Should Go To A Celtics Game In Boston

1.       The Fans/Crowd

It’s hard to describe the atmosphere of a Celtics game to someone who hasn’t experienced it in person. It’s unlike any other basketball viewing experience in the NBA. Celtics fans are typically described as harsh, critical, obnoxious, and absolutely crazy. While all of that may be true, they’re also one of the most loyal fanbases in the sports world.

They’re loud. Like REALLY loud. The TD Garden, home base of the Celtics, is filled with the “Let’s Go Celtics” cheers from fans until the very end of the night, whether the team is winning or losing. Celtics players like Marcus Smart, Isaiah Thomas, and Al Horford have admitted to drawing motivation from the crowd for big game wins. But it’s not just Celtics players, even players from other teams have described the energy of the arena being unlike any other in the NBA.

“I only get to play there once a year, but you can feel it. The fans are crazy. Even when they were bad, those fans were there. When we were bad, our building was silent.” – Prominent 17/18 Free Agent

“Those fans were chanting like crazy at the end of Game 5 when the team was getting killed by Cleveland. There are other great fans, but none are better than Boston.” Veteran Free Agent 17/18

2.       They’re Good and They’re Only Getting Better

The Celtics are a team on the rise. In the 2016-17 season, they beat out the Cavaliers to become the #1 seed going into the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The team was described as the worst No. 1 seed in the history of the league, but they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals to face off against defending champions, The Cavaliers, despite the doubters.

They made great strides throughout the season, and are only coming out stronger this 2017-18 season to hopefully earn their 18th Banner. With new additions Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, Marcus Morris and Kyrie Irving, the Celtics could be a top contender for a championship next year.

3.       Isaiah Thomas

It might be hard to believe that a 5’9’’ point guard could be the shining star of an NBA team, but you better believe it. Isaiah Thomas is an unbelievable player. Even though he is almost always the smallest player on the court, he can score from anywhere on the floor but shines most when he uses his quickness to drive to the basket. He’s a player that you must see play in person to really appreciate his skill and love of the game.

UPDATE: Since posting, the Celtics have traded Isaiah Thomas to the Cavaliers and in return received Kyrie Irving.

4.       You Can Get Cheap Tickets

Even though the Celtics are a top team in the league, it’s not impossible to get cheap tickets. Apart from a few games against popular opponents during the year (ex. Warriors or Cavaliers), tickets could go for as low as $15-$20 for balcony seats. There is really no bad seat in the TD Garden and it’s always a guaranteed fun night out no matter where you sit!
