Tiny Little Island Called Nantucket
Just off Cape Cod is a tiny little island called Nantucket. Nantucket is a huge summer destination lined with seaside cottages, quaint inns, sand dunes lined along the beaches, and beautiful lighthouses. Since I am lucky enough to have an amazing boyfriend, he surprised me with a long weekend trip to Nantucket for my birthday in April!
April was an extremely rainy month this year, but we lucked out and had early summertime weather for the entire weekend. This meant we were able to enjoy the sunshine on the island without dealing with the summertime crowds. A dream come true.
My boyfriend booked us a room at a cute inn called The Hawthorn House which was a short walk from the wharf where the ferry dropped us off. The room was small but had a nice balcony that overlooked their backyard area where we could enjoy some wine and talk.
The first afternoon we explored the downtown area, grabbed some dinner at Brotherhood of Thieves and relaxed.
The next morning we set out on a quick run to Jetties Beach before heading over to Fog Island Café for an absolutely delicious breakfast. I highly recommend the “Bene & The Jets” eggs benedict dish, it was great!
After that, we rented bikes from Young’s Bicycle Shop to explore the island and set-off towards Cisco Brewery. Cisco Brewery is a brewery, distillery and winery. During the summer, Cisco offers public tours and tastings where visitors get a behind the scenes look at the operating procedures and methods and are also able to taste two wines, two beers and two spirits. They also host live music and food trucks! Unfortunately for us, we visited during the off-season, so we’ll have to make another trip back next year to get the tour but this is definitely a must-see when visiting Nantucket.
After enjoying a few drinks on the outdoor patio at Cisco, we decided to head over to Bartlett Farm and grab some lunch to take on a picnic. We made our way down the remainder of the road until we ended up on a beach that was completely isolated.
We hung out at the beach for a while enjoying the sound of the waves crashing in and resting up for our bike ride to return back to the downtown area.
Once we returned the bikes we walked around a bit and visited the Brant Point Lighthouse before my birthday dinner at Dune. The food at Dune was good but I thought a little overpriced for what you get. The food did come out quickly and the service was great!
We spent our last day of the trip literally window shopping because it was Easter and none of the shops were open! Oops, bad planning!
Nantucket was absolutely beautiful, and visiting during the off-season was especially nice for someone who does not like the crowds. I can’t wait to go back and explore further into the parts of the island that we missed such as the Great Point Lighthouse and the Nantucket Whaling Museum!
