We had a blast splashing around in Bath… literally. The small England town was the perfect place for a long weekend getaway with so much to do and see, not only in Bath but the surrounding towns too.

Check-out our itinerary for a 3-day trip to Bath, Bristol and Salisbury.

Day 1: Bath

We arrived in Bath very early in the morning, so we had a full-day to explore. We dropped our bags at the hotel until we could check-in and set out for some breakfast at the historic Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House for some of their famous bath buns. Sally Lunn’s is the oldest house in Bath and they serve up some delicious and sweet buns that are a must-have on any trip to Bath. They have some pretty good tea too!

From there, we decided to explore a bit before our 1pm tour time at the Roman Baths. We headed down towards the River Avon to check-out the Pulteney Bridge, the scenery and stopped into a few shops.

When 1pm came around, we were ready to explore one of the most famous attractions in the city, the Roman Baths. The Roman Baths and consists of a sacred spring, the Roman Temple, and the Roman Bath House. It was once used as a public bathing spa for the Romans. It’s amazing inside and you get a great view of the Bath Abbey from inside too! One of the coolest opportunities you have inside the Roman Baths is the chance to drink some fresh spa water right from the fountain!

After our tour, we decided to go for tea at the Pump Room next door. It was crowded, we waited a while for a seat and even longer for service but the tea, finger sandwiches, scones and treats were definitely worth the wait. But, fair warning it’s pretty expensive.

Even though we could barely move from how full we were – we still put on our bathing suits for a night swim at the Thermae Spa. Thermae Spa is the only natural spa in Britain. Again, it’s pricey but 100% worth the price. We did the basic package, the Thermae Welcome, which gives you access to their rooftop pool that overlooks the downtown area of Bath, their Minerva Bath, and their wellness suite which includes steam room, infrared rooms, relaxation rooms and more.

Day 2: Salisbury & Stonehenge

Something that had been on my bucket list for a long time was a visit to Stonehenge. Finally, I was able to check-that off the list. We woke up early and took the train into Salisbury which is about an hour from Bath.

From there, we took the hop-on, hop-off bus over to the Stonehenge site and began exploring.

The tour of Stonehenge is surprisingly good. At first, I was worried that the crowds of people would just be surrounding the rocks and it would be hard to see. But, the tour actually takes you around the site explaining the different angles of the rocks and the different theories of how they were constructed and what they were used for. It was perfectly laid out so that everyone was moving and wasn’t crowded into one area ignoring the historical significance of the site just to get their perfect selfie.

After Stonehenge, we decided to visit The Salisbury Cathedral. I’ve never had a cathedral blow my mind before but this one did. It was so, so beautiful it’s hard to put it into words, so I’m going to let the pictures speak for itself. And it’s home to the best-preserved Magna Carta. Unfortunately for us, just a few days before our trip someone actually tried to steal the Magna Carta, destroying its casing in the process. So, it wasn’t on display but the guard of the room was the most adorable old man who was so knowledgeable and still made it a great experience even though we didn’t actually get to see the document.

Day 3: Bristol

For our last day in the area, we took the train back to Bristol since we were flying out of the city’s airport. We went in with almost no plans and it was a bank holiday so a lot of things were closed.

We decided to explore the city by searching for Banksy street art. Bristol is the hometown of Banksy, an anonymous street artist who is world famous. We found a few of his pieces before deciding to head over to the M-Shed, which is a free Bristol history museum.

We didn’t have much more time to explore, so we just had a quick lunch and pint before heading over to the airport. I definitely wish we had more time in Bristol so we could have done more but we’ll just have to go back again!
